Working in collaboration with service design agency, Commonground, we were invited by the Design Council to respond to to a brief to redesign the Outpatient Pharmacy at the Whittington Hospital in London.
Studio TILT’s design method focused on the space as the context for all the needed solutions. We established a programme of codesign workshops with representatives from all the key stakeholder groups including patients, staff and management. We tested and retested ideas, first in model form then in half scale and finally in full scale within the pharmacy itself. The full scale prototyping included pieces designed and made by Studio TILT, to be tested in situ. One of these was the prototype of the Quiet Chair.
The project provided key insights and lessons which directly impacted how the space is now been used as well as providing a service blueprint and design framework for future space expenditure. It demonstrably improved the patient experience while simultaneously boosting staff morale and driving increased sales at the pharmacy.
