The Place is a busy hub of contemporary dance and the arts combining a remit for education, entertainment and engagement.
Studio TILT provided a full scope of works to redesign the space. Beginning at the brief development stage we employed our unique codesign methodology to collaborate with members of The Place staff, and some students and visitors, to establish the brief and ultimately prototype and test the design solutions as they emerged. The design interventions ranged from architectural, furniture and way-finding solutions which were developed by Studio TILT’s multi-disciplinary team.
We recognised that the space does not exist in isolation and that the entire experience from the point of entry through to the theatre and ultimately the basement space needed to be considered within an integrated design approach.
The Place engaged Studio Tilt to help them imagine and realise how they could, through a series of design interventions, dramatically improve the experience of those using the building and attract new visitors from the vicinity. This approach was so successful that the Place has reengaged Studio Tilt to carry out further refurbishment work on the rest of their site.
