Studio TILT were tasked with clarifying the proposal and designing up to the concept for an incubator centre for PLACE / Ladywell.
PLACE / Ladywell is a Lewisham Council funded project and is the first ‘pop-up village’ in the UK. The site provides temporary housing for 24 families registered as homeless and ground-floor space for community and enterprise use.
The site, formerly used for Ladywell Leisure Centre, was left vacant while long term regeneration plans were finalised. The building was commissioned by Lewisham Council and designed by architect Richard Rogers to provide temporary housing as a short-term solution. The building is fully demountable with the intention that in years’ time, the structure can be deconstructed, moved to other vacant locations and reconstructed.
Lewisham Council approached Studio TILT due to our reputation and experience in producing successful coworking spaces. There is a total of 800 m2 – 1000 m2 of commercial (or non residential space) on the ground floor.
