Oxford HUB was designed to accommodates a cafe, bar and restaurant, library, first floor terrace, adaptable meeting and events spaces and dedicated offices.
The Student Hub network are a national student volunteering network and the Oxford Hub was to be their flagship space.
The grade II listed Georgian building in the centre of Oxford had to accommodate a varied brief, including a cafe, bar and restaurant, library, first floor terrace, adaptable meeting and events spaces and dedicated offices.
We ran a series of codesign workshops with the student volunteers to design the space.
Their input shaped the flexible design of the space. Meeting rooms were designed to be easily converted into an events space. The library could function as a place for informal working.
A key factor in the space’s success was the collaboration with the client to develop specific bespoke furniture elements that allowed for the space to be used in different ways.
The finished space feels contemporary but also promotes the original features of the Grade II listed building.
