Alongside Club Chiswick, Club Bankside represented the second phase development of Club Workspace, a London wide network of coworking spaces for start-ups and freelancers. TILT were engaged exclusively to lead the design for the Clubs in this second phase.
The Club Bankside space offered some particular design challenges since it was located in a disused basement space. This served as a motivation for TILT, particularly around lighting design. We used an innovative LED system devised by the practice. An old industrial entrance was reinstated for access, creating a secret entrance for members, and adding a new dimension to how people would experience the space.
The key requirement was to create a space for high density working while simultaneously providing people with a beautiful mix of spaces, allowing them the opportunity to drift through the space and find the appropriate area that matched how they wish to work. A combination of informal meeting spaces, touch down and fixed working.
Flexibility and adaptability were also important elements as the space needed to be able to transition easily into an events space for evening time use.
The furniture used in the space reflected the functions of coworking with tables from the Fruit&Nut Series and LeafDesks used for touchdown working and The Festival Chairs and OpenBook chairs used for informal meeting and connecting.
